Like many of you, we’re making the most of summer not only at home-base (NYC), but by traveling to different destinations including China, San Francisco, L.A., Pennsylvania and more. As light packers, we have to prioritize what we take, which includes choosing makeup. We only take products that withstands the rigors of a trip where you are constantly on-the-go.
Our considerations for choosing makeup:
Quick and easy to apply. Also, the makeup doesn’t need a lot of tools for application.
Doesn’t take a lot of room
- Bonus points for versatility (if the product can create different looks or is multi-functional in any way).

Travel friendly details: Quick and Easy:
We never travel without makeup remover wipes. They’re easy to use on the plane, in a hotel, and on-the-go. Sometimes, we prefer individually wrapped wipes, but for longer trips, a larger pack works (or we bring a mix). These makeup remover wipes by Simple get.it.done. We’ve never used a wipe that takes makeup off so completely and with such speed.
2. Eyeliner: SEPHORA COLLECTION Classic Line 24HR Felt Eyeliner
Travel friendly details: Super quick application. Slim profile.
Convenient and easy to use, this liner makes your eyes POP, even when traveling all day makes you tired. You can use it to create a thin line for daytime, and amp it up with a easy-to-create cat eye at night.
3. Blush: LancômeCushion Blush Subtil
Travel friendly details: Fast application with *flawless* results. Also - it won’t break or melt.
With light application, this blush looks pretty and natural. For a more dramatic look, you can layer it - making it really versatile! It's not a powder so there is no chance of it breaking (the worst!), and since it's not a gel stick, it's not going to melt like some we've tried. It's a really beautiful blush. Don't forget to turn the cushion over when it starts to run dry (a tip from a Sephora rep).
4. Foundation: MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation
Travel friendly details: Fast application and formula withstands travel (won’t break). Downside - have to apply with a sponge, which is hard to clean when traveling.
This is a versatile foundation in that the coverage will build nicely. If all you need is a quick swipe - you're good to go. If you need heavier coverage, it can do that too. The formula works in many weather conditions. We wore it in both cooler and warmer (i.e. humid) conditions and it stayed put.
Travel friendly details: Fast application and lasts a long time.
Brow pencils are just way more travel-friendly than any powder and brush form. There are many on the market, but this is a good value. The size of the pencil is nice - allowing you to make small, detailed strokes for a more natural look.
6. Lips: Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lipcolor
Travel friendly details: Lasts a REALLY long time.
This product does what it says it will do - namely, stay put for hours. Swipe it on and look fresh - even through multiple security lines and several on-board cocktails...
7. Nail Care: Bear Naked Nail Wipes, Grapefruit
Travel friendly details: Won’t spill and easy to travel with.
We don't want to worry about our nails too much when we are traveling (or even in general). If we set off with our nails in good shape, but traveling takes it toll in the form of chipping, we usually opt to take it all off and go sans-polish. These nail wipes make it easy!
